Stanford with sucky SAT scores?

I can do fine on APs and chapter tests but I just can't do well on Standarized testing esp SAT and SAT IIs. Is there still a chance for Harvard? I don't have anything special in sports nor awards but I have a pretty good GPA and rank and decent ECs.

You are on Stanford (not Harvard) forum. But the answer is generally no. You need all the high scores you can get, and then something else, that all the rest of the people with the same high scores don't have. (That applies to both Harvard and Stanford)

Sorry I meant Stanford.
What do you consider the cut off score (although there really is none)?
Do you think an SAT score in the 1300s is okay?

If you have impressive EC's or awards (at the national level) I think it's certainly possible. I would definately trade my test scores for a semifinalist spot at Westinghouse, for example.

what is that?

I will trade my SAT I, SAT II, rank, and GPA for High School Basketball Player of the Year Award (two years ago it was Lebron James). If i'm not mistaken Stanford has one of the best basketball teams in the nation, and they probably want to maintain that ranking!

i think 1300s is pretty good, i tried my best and only got 1300ish, they'll understand us won't they?? :S

i know people who have gotten in with 1100's and 1200's

i meant to say National Player of the Year, not just my own high school lol

lol ^ yeah i think that was assumed! hahaha

my impression of stanford's admission process is like MIT; it's very holistic!!! which is good for those who score low like myself!! I'm nationally recognized in scientific research. 2 of my papers will be published by the end of 2005.

wait I thought MIT cared ALOT more about SAT and GPA

starryqt22, are those ppl of yours international students requiring extensive financial aid? are they extraordinary atheletes? they gotta have something!

hot ice...that's wrong. Matt Mcgannt took me out to dessert and dinner, and trust me, it's all about passion and committment to your interest.

hmm at the information session he said he would like to see all SAT and SAT II scores over 700

this may be a dumb question, but who is Matt Mcgannt?? Is he the new dean of admission?

i dont know who he is either.. dont worry.

yes Matt McGann is the assistant director of admissions. But he's more of a regional admissions officer, for like the east coast.

no he went over here to CA to do an info session and to see me. so he's not only exclusively east coast.

lol, a woman did my information session. she was really pretty but i forgot her name.. lol
