say, what were their ECs and awards? what exactly made person number 3 stand above the other two?

He was an outstanding trumpet player...wrote all essays on that.
He was all-state in california. I'm pretty sure he hasnt chosen a major.

Person 4
SAT - 1540
800, 760, 740
Portrayed by teachers and counselor as energetic, funny guy
Long essay about passion for Astronomy (an experience during the October lunar eclipse with a picture taken through telescope)
Rejected

It's all a game and I have to say I'm not too lucky (ask my friends about my debt from Poker every night lol)

sigh good luck to all you hopefuls!

aim78-stanford obviously is not worth your time. i'm pretty sure you'll be happier elsewhere... cheer up =)

wow i can't believe you weren't deferred AIM!! how can they flat out reject you??

Cause it's Stanford! They actually had some nice things to say in the letter "Your teachers and counselor had wonderful things to say about you, and we wish we had enough space to admit all applicants with as much talent and energy as you" (or something like that). I dunno if it was personalized, but it was nice. I read the rejection with a smile. I think I'm deranged.

The only thing that hurts is my Mom's disappointment. She opened the letter first (I slept until 1:30 PM so she probably couldn't wait) and the envelope was mangled. She opened it with excitement. I probably should have warned her about what small envelopes usually mean. :(

Just wondering, what day did you receive your letters? And, where are you located (I'm wondering since no one around me has received them yet, and I live only about 2.5 hours away from Stanford).

Thanks!
