Hi all,
I am very new to this forum and this post is quite late. However, I have seen many “chance” threads and figured that I could post one to gain insight, even if a decision is already in the mail for me. The question I am wondering about is, how do my statistics compare to other students that were admitted to Stanford, and what are my chances? Just curious.
SAT I: 2280 (800 M, 730 CR, 750 W)
SAT II: 720 M2, 710 Chem (didn’t study)
ACT: n/a
GPA: 4.0 UW (no weighting done)
Class Rank: 1/463 (co-valedictorian)
AP: APUSH (5), AP Chem (4), AP Calc (5), AP Lang (3 - bad teacher), AP 2D Design/Photo (4)
Senior Year: AP Lit, AP Bio, AP Gov, Team Sports (graduation requirement), AP Stats, AP Spanish
EC: Tutor (paid and volunteer - separate), youth group leader (middle school and high school), NHS, Math Team, Companion Club (work w/ special education classes), go on annual mission trips, Varsity Golf (4 yrs.), Varsity Letter in Community Service (4 yrs.), caretaker for my dad who is terminally ill with Multiple System Atrophy (few months left)
URM: n/a
Income: <$75,000
Hooks: Unique story with dad…?
Essays:
Common App: Great. Talked about coping with my dad’s illness and its effect on my family. Very well-received by peers and teachers.
Stanford Ones: Good. I consider myself a strong writer and emphasized my dad’s illness as a motivation for me to study medicine but didn’t overdo it so much that I became unavoidably depressing… Roommate letter was quirky and original; I talked about my weird food allergies and how I strangely adore vegan foods. Last one discussed my passion for community service and how it has made me more compassionate as I grow older. Overall rating for essays: 8.5/10 (could have been edited more).
Miscellaneous:
I got accepted to PLU and UW (local) and to WUSTL, who is flying me back for a scholarship interview later this month (stoked about that).
I guess I’m just up in the air. 12 of my peers applied early and all got rejected so I’m not expecting much, but I’m unsure of how much Stanford values a uniquely personal background. I have demonstrated interest and toured, talked to admissions and financial aid, etc.
Thanks for your opinions in advance!
