Stanford

How hard would it be to get in to Stanford with a 96 GPA, 30/31 on the ACT, like top 15%, pretty stellar essays, and like have gone on to state UIL for spelling, and being a Hispanic male?

I think you have a pretty good shot, got any other EC's? If not its gonna be a bit hard. Try to do a good essay is all i can then then.

You have a fair chance, but keep in mind that Stanford gets more hispanic applicants that most top schools given California's large hispanic population.

My relative is a hispanic male, 2nd in class from a prep school, got waitlisted at Stanford, but lucky he just now graduated from Princeton. I think he was a recruitable athlete, but was denied at Harvard too. Didn't get into Berkeley either, but got into Brown and a few others. His stats were top notch, as well as the recco's and EC's. There are a lot better schools than Stanford. DD's school sends many there because of being in CA, but they are not the most interesting people.

I have ECs...but they are sort of typical:

(oh ya...I'm a sophomore)

Mu Alpha Theta
Student Council
Spanish Honor Society
Red Cross Club
Dance Club (Indian dance)
Mentorship program (medical student and us @ lunch)

I'll be in National Honor Society, I'm going to try to get that National AP scholar thing

Do I have a better chance at Princeton or Darthmouth, since the Hispanic population in those places are minute? (I'm not a fan of the Ivies...but...)

It does help since you are hispanic, and since you have agood GPA with a good ACT as well as some decent EC's. If you were to write an excellent essay, and have some good recs. Id say you would have mmm about a 22%. If you were to get very good EC's it would increase your chances dramaticly since most of the students that apply are around your scores and GPA,so try and get leaderships in EC's and you'll stand out.

I'm going to try to get that National AP scholar thing --

Why, since it does not matter much?

thanks everyone for your input

since when do you need to be in NHS to get national AP scholar? i thought u just need to get a high AP score average on a bunch of AP tests...

i'm an ap scholar and my grades are not even close to being good enough for nhs. you dont need to be in nhs- just get good ap scores

Yea. AP Scholar=Frequent Flyer. Isn't that important...unless you get the National AP Scholar (straight fives on like a bazillion tests...)

no for national ap scholar u would have to have all 4s or above on 8 or more AP tests
most people get it after their senior year in highschool but there are about a 100 kids each year who get it as juniors which counts alot
