my guess is that they do send out transfer decisions on the 16th (that includes additional information that freshman will also recieve), and the gap until the 20th is so all transfers will get their accept/reject before the addtional info goes out.

This site has this date to alert freshman but it is the same date for transfers. The reason the transfer site doesnt have this date is simply because this site is newer, this is new information pertianing to this year. I dont think there is a chance of getting letters before the 16th.

no i think they will just give all the accepted stanford applicants the coming to stanford booklet. The letters on the 16th, the booklet on the 20th. They cannot do this for freshman (1000+ wasted) but can for transfers (only 30 max wasted). In fact they have to because we need just as much time to prepare as freshman. If they waited until they got a deposit it might be hard to get the health, housing, etc forms in in time.

it seems that stanford gets alot more transfers apps than other schools (1400 vs yale 700 for instance). Is this because of the incrediably large california cc population? does anyone know the numbers of applicants per instituation type?

the bulk of stanford applicants are from 4 year universities, and maybe out of state (i don;t remember)

there are typically 400-500 CC students apply to stanford, 10 or 20 get in (FROM CC, 100 overall get in)

It's sort of odd that a school as tech-savvy as Stanford relies on snail mail to deliver decisions and communicate with applicants. Cal has an awesome online applicant interface...

Does anyone know if there is any history of transfer applicants applying simultaneously for freshman admission? I'm only 18 and have 62 semester credits behind me because I left high school early, but I wrote a page-long appeal to the Admission Office requesting to be considered for freshman admission rather than transfer status. (The appeal was submitted with mytransfer application under the 'extenuating circumstances/additional information' section of form T2.) I truly value the idea of a four-year undergraduate experience, and I hope Stanford sees that...

By the way, I'm from Bard High School Early College, an offshoot of Bard College, and a school modeled after Simon's Rock College of Bard. There has been much confusion as to whether students graduating with Bard's A.A. degree from B.H.S.E.C. should be considered freshman or transfer applicants. I applied as a transfer as advised to do so, but I am hoping that Stanford hears my appeal and considers me for freshman candidacy. The main justification behind my desire to be considered a freshman comes obviously from my age -- at 18, I feel that I need the full four-year undergraduate experience...

igarvey, one of my friends at wesleyan actually came out of Bard High School Early College and entered as a freshman, though this probably doesn't help you at all with stanford. But I agree with you on wanting four years--even four to me seems short!

hey, i was just thinking. assuming _42 is right and letters are mailed out on the 16th, your timer should be reset to the 19th. (or 20th, for the people far, far away.)
