Stanford's Extended Waitlist

I was just placed on Stanford's Extended Wait List last night. How many applicants are on this wait list? And how many would you all estimate would leave Stanford due to other wait list issues? I hear - if placed on this wait list - that your odds are pretty good - is this true?

an extended waitlist? :O haven't heard of that.

I am on it too. The emial was really vague, but lets keep confident. My only question is, did ANYONE get off of the waitlist yet? I know that many were rejected, but I have yet to hear of anyone getting accepted yet.

I don't think we will figure out until next week, because we have to wait for all the other schools to figure out their wait lists.

I believe I have this figured out. In the waitlist article linked to in another post it says that Stanford is keeping a few students on the waitlist in case some of their own acceptances get off the waitlist at a different school.

ya i was extended as well..... so is there any statistics on "extended waitlist" applicants

rszanto and cubbies.... how many apllicants do you think are in our situation with the extended waitlist.... and here's my thoughts...... Yes we were notified that this year's Stanford class is CURRENTLY full....the key word is currently... Suprisingly Harvard and Yale still have room, so they will accept some students... some of them are Stanford applicants who were offered admission.... and some of them will choose to go to either Yale or Harvard over Stanford.... with all those "somes" taken in to account, i belive a few extended waitlisted students will get in... i would just like to know how many of us there are on the Stanford extended waitlist, and how much room there is at those other top schools that will pull students away from this year's Stanford class, then we "extendies" will be better psychologically prepared for our futures.....!!!!

***Still, even if we did have all the statistics in the world, it is all to chance, and really, it is up to the Lord's will as too what our futures store.

Yeah, I'm going to call them tomorrow and will post the results.

There are about 100 students on the extended wait list. They are currently dealing with transfers. I say about 10 to 15 of us get off the wait list due to such high activity on Ivy League wait lists this year.

So is this straight from Stanford? This article says that Stanford will definitely consider going to the waitlist with the huge Ivy League activity that is going on.

“We’re over target right now, so we’re in good shape,” said Rick Shaw, the Stanford dean of admissions. “But I’m keeping a small group on the wait list, because I think there’ll be some impact of wait-list activity at other schools.”

<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/09/education/09admissions.html?_r=2&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&oref=slogin&oref=slogin%5B/url%5D">http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/09/education/09admissions.html?_r=2&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&oref=slogin&oref=slogin</a></p>

No, the 10 to 15 students is just a guess... I'm guessing such a low number because they are over target, meaning that it's going to take some significant movement before they move to the wait list. But, the 100 students is straight from Stanford.

Wow, that means we already beat some mean odds to get on the extended waitlist. Do you know if anyone was even taken off of the regular waitlist, or did they just winnow it down to the list we are on?

hey cubbies how do you know there are about 100 hundred kids on the extended waitlist?

hey and what are some of your guys credentials ... you know G.P.A. test scores, extra-curriculars?... just so i have an idea of what kind of applicants they put on the extended waitlist

umm ok.. so i know because i called this morning stanford admissions this morning to ask.. and there was no regular wait list because stanford didnt even need to use the wait list (SO FAR)... credentials... i go to phillips academy (which in itself says alot -considering we've already gotten 22 into stanford this year) and am top 5 percent in my class.. got 2350 SAT (800V, 780M, 770W) got 790 Chem SAT II, 770 Math IIC, 750 Latin... those are my stats..

what about extra-curriculars, you seem to be a test and grade buff

haha...im not really sure why you care, as "stanford is staying put for the time being" (according to my college counselor)... but as for other extracurrics... I am the student coordinator of my community service program, I created my own microfinance organization that works to spread and raise money for the cause - im actually taking this summer to visist and help advise many of our loanees in southeast asia, im also the leader of the STAND coalition at my school (against Darfur), and have done a significant amount of cancer research at the university of chicago during the summers.... umm, also volunteered at a leper clinic in korea (an amazing expereince).. let's see aside from that - im a tour guide for the school, a peer tutor, and proctor (one of four "leaders" in my dorm of 40 boys)

when do you think we will hear back.... and where are you probably gonna go

has anyone on the extended waitlist heard back yet??

cubbies7177, and you didn't get in with all that?

somehow i can't fully believe that....
