Stanford's Major In Neuroscience?

How is this major at Stanford?

I am really interested in Neuroscience at either Stanford, Johns Hopkins, and Harvard. I am trying to get an idea as to whether or not it is real good to take this major at Stanford. My main career path is neurosurgical sciences, so i liked the idea of neuroscience. From what i have researched about this major is that it has 3 concentrations (from JHU website): neurobiology- neuro cell and molecular biology; Cognitive science- study of memory, linguistic interpretation etc. (parallel world to brain aka the Mind); and of course my favourite, the neurosystems/anatomy/physiology.

Id like to know if anyone has researched or is currently in this program, to give me some opinions on this major.

Thanks

Sincerely,

hey! I'm interested in the same thing! I'll be applying in the fall, so none of this is first hand experience/ knowledge, but as far as I know, Stanford doesn't have an explicit "neuroscience" major. But that's not to say there aren't neuro classes. Depending on if you double major or take classes in different departments, you can get the same courseload as if you were at another school with a specific neuro major. In short, Sanford's stellar, but you might not be able to say that you're a "neuroscience" major.

Hope that helps!

arrggg i thought they had it?

i saw in the graduate USNWR rankings... JHU HARVARD STANFORD top 3... even though its graduate ranks.

They have it, it's just hidden sort of..

At a certain point, the USNWR don't really mean anything, I think. The distinction between the top three schools are so small that it doens't really matter.

i'm planning on entering the same field, and the beauty about this at stanford is that even if they don't have EXACTLY the major you are looking for, you will definitely find something related (ie biochemistry, anatomy), PLUS you get a quarter system, which allows you to take more classes in the stuff that you are more interested in... so more neuro classes! :D

btw, you might want to look at upenn's cognitive science major. if you're anything like me, this will make you cry in happiness. Institute for Research in Cognitive Science

AMAZING ;_;

like i said earlier... i need a uni which allows students to attend medical school lectures that are pre-med tracked students... donno if UPenn has that
