Stanford's recalculation of GPA

Correct me if I'm wrong but for Stanford's calculation of GPA, do they remove your freshmen year alltogether, take out all +'s and -'s, and figure in a new GPA for you?, and, then the entire purpose of putting your GPA is to see if you're <10% class rank? Is that how they work basically?

"Correct me if I'm wrong but for Stanford's calculation of GPA, do they remove your freshmen year alltogether, take out all +'s and -'s, and figure in a new GPA for you?"

Yes. They also only count your "academic" classes (no art, PE, etc.)

"then the entire purpose of putting your GPA is to see if you're <10% class rank?"

Probably something like that.

What about AP Art? Do they count those?

I don't think they count it for GPA, but you can submit your art portfolio as art suppliment.
