Starbucks with AP classes?

Hi! I'm wondering if it's possible (without collapsing) to work at Starbucks as a high school junior with 4 AP classes (calc, phys, chem, and eng). I really want to get some job experience and Starbucks just sounds amazing! I don't know if I'll be able to handle it however, meaning I want straight A's. Is this recommended? Has anyone worked there with the same situation?

Plenty of people have a job with 4 AP classes.

But could they handle it? Did it affect their grades?

Check if starbucks hires anyone under 18 though. I don’t remember exactly, but I think they hire 18+. Also there are other options like Jamba Juice, mall stores, fast-food restaurants, etc. As long as you can get the job and are good with time management then I thin you’ll do fine. A common part of a high schooler’s life is to get a job, so I don’t think it’s out of the ordinary for you to work while having a rigorous schedule at school.

How many hours per week would you work, and how difficult has your course load been so far? Plenty of people maintain straight As in 4 or more APs while playing a sport or maintaining a job. It’s not at all uncommon, you just need to look at what you’ve done and what you think you’re capable of and decide if you can do it as well.

be prepared to make Caramel Macchiato, Venti, Skim, Extra Shot, Extra-Hot, Extra-Whip, Sugar-Free 3 pump, 2% foam u get the point

Why Starbucks?
People who frequent Starbucks are the worst people ever.

Wow thanks for the generalization

Thanks to everyone else though :smiley: but my parents say that the time working at Starbucks (or any other job) would be better spent doing a research project…I don’t know what to do

18+ to work at Starbucks. My daughter works 8-12 hours per week (2 or 3 four hour shifts) at a burrito place. She likes it, but it does interfere with other things she can do. She’s in drama and so sometimes there are weeks she can’t work, so then tries to swap with people. For the last 2 weeks, she’s worked 5-6 shifts. It’s a lot.

@DhaBoringMe - It wasn’t a generalization - it’s 100% truth. Plus, why get offended because I made a snarky remark about Starbucks? Is their PR paying you by any chance?

@preamble1776‌ Let’s keep the sarcasm to a low…

I wouldn’t recommend getting a job during junior year. Too much stuff. Try to do volunteer work on the weekends. That worked for me.

@Hawkace
'Scuse you.

If you have an amazing research opportunity, that would be more beneficial if it aligns with your career interests.

The time management part is pretty much why it looks so impressive to schools to have a job; it takes a lot of time, and you need to work really hard to do well in school with a job.

It is not impossible, but it’s definitely not easy. If at all possible, you could try and find a job that might allow more flexible hours or on the job studying. For example: I have worked at a Kumon, which was fixed hours each week (4-8, M & Th) so I was never scheduled unexpectedly. I was also able to do homework during small breaks. My sister worked at a movie theater and was permitted to read while in the box office (when there weren’t customers).

If it is something where you need/want the money, I’d say try the job out. You can quit if you need to. Try and begin work in the summer to learn the ropes and some time management skills. The transition to school after that will be easier.

If you just want something on your resume, I say volunteer; easily flexible hours, and it’d be something you probably enjoy (not wiping tables).

I rarely go to Starbucks for the coffee–I have my own Keurig at home.

But those cake pops tho.

I think you guys are forgetting the most important part of working…MONEY!
You get money!

My brother came to America for only 2 years before taking 4 AP(calcAB, bio, and 2 others), getting straight A’s, rank 7, bio olympiad top 20 while still be able to volunteer at hospital and work as a waiter. You can do it too!
