start a sport junior yr?

I'm not all that athletic but would it hurt my chances if i began playing a sport my junior year (and continue sr. yr)? i was thinking of trying out for soccer or tennis in the spring, because I'm not as busy and i want to be an "athletic scholar".

you dont have to mention it on your college app, and it would prob hurt you (unless ur varsity) because colleges would think ur doing it randomly sortof (+ it takes away one valuble spot from the 7 Common App. spots, since sports are common and unless ur amazing it isnt factored into admission decisions)

it will not hurt at all for heavens sake, jeesh

as for doing it randomly so what? you are trying something new and that is a good thing, you are staying healthy, and that is a good thing

go for it!!!

why in the world would it hurt your chances? I don't undertand that concept at all

do you think the colleges expect you to do the same thing all 4 years, like robots? no, they don't

it takes guts to step out and try something

If you can even consider doing that, chances are you're not at a serious sports school. Just do it for fun. I can imagine there are kids who never played before and emerge stars quickly though.

heh I was actually also thinking of starting a sport this year (junior year, baseball).

i started a sport junior year. it doesn't seem to have hurt my application. being good enough for college athlete status isn't really all that important, as long as you have a passion for said sport.

do it because you want to, not because what college will think. if you are doing it just for your applications, then they will see that. but if you are doing it because you want to do it, that will probably show, or you could write about it. i know someone that joined a team senior year. again, do it for you.
