Start over at another CC district

Hi guys, I have a big problem. Last semester I had a lot of personal problems and it caused me to do very poorly at college. I got 3 C's, in General Chemistry II, Calculus I, Biotechnology. These are all important prereqs for my major. I need a way out of this mess, I am pretty certain I lost my chances of transferring to UCLA. I was wondering if I can start all over in a different college at another district and maybe send only those grades to the UC's when I transfer, also because I don't want these grades hanging on my record when I apply for a professional schools after the university. Or maybe if there is a way to remove a semester from your record. As of right now those are my choices

I can assure you that there is no way that you can erase an entire semester from your record. The UC’s you apply to specifically ask for all coursework from each college you attend, so it would be unwise to “hide” past work.

C’s really aren’t that bad, just make sure you have an upward trend from here on out and you’ll be fine.

You don’t need to start over at another CC. Just because you start over doesn’t mean your record is “reset”

Look up on your current CC (the CC you attended last sem I mean) for “academic renewal”. If you have been there for 2+ semesters and have a reasonable excuse, you may be qualified and all of your bad grades will turn into AR. If you just simply start at another school, then not only you cannot retake those classes you got C in, you will also have to report them in your TAG / normal app. Hope that helps.

There is no academic renewal for C’s only D’s and F’s. I can repeat them at the other CC since it’s in another district

Any college course you take anywhere becomes part of your permanent academic record and you will have to live with it for the rest of your life. Academic renewal is usually reserved for students who received Ds and Fs and and can not be used to undo a C which is a perfectly acceptable passing grade.

The UCs use a website called the National Student Clearinghouse that obtains a list from nearly all colleges and universities in the country, including all CCCs, CSUs and UCs of any student who has ever attended thier institution to prevent applicants from doing what you are contemplating. Since attempting to hide previous coursework during the application process is considered a very serious act of academic dishonesty, if you are caught, which is very probable, you likely will be permanently barred from admission to all UCs and CSUs.

I see, this is terrible situation for me, up until last semester I had a 4.0 in my major GPA and 3.7 overall, these 3 C’s are in very important classes and I have lost all my motivation since it is almost impossible to get into UCLA now.

I had a question that was somewhat similar

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1196581-have-send-all-transcripts-ucla.html</a></p>

I did not know about the National Student Clearinghouse. But would it matter if the course was taken while in high school, is a non transferable course, and I am not putting it on my application for credit?

I believe someone on this board said that his/her school even offers AR for C’s in exceptional situations :)

But oh well, UCs do accept students with an upgrade trend like screename said, so don’t lose your motivation. Lastly, don’t repeat C’s courses at another school before AR or whatever… trust me, you don’t wanna get caught

Yes, it does matter. EVERY SINGLE course  unless it is 0.0 unit (workshop course, course for old people, etc.)

There is a way to take C courses at another college, and send them both. I can repeat a C course at another college because the course number is different, so heres another question, if I repeat a C class and get an A, and send them both, which ones do the UC’s look at?

Yes, it does matter. EVERY SINGLE course unless it is 0.0 unit (workshop course, course for old people, etc.)

^^ yeah but it won’t affect my GPA or my chances of admission right?
It’s weird because I never put it on my application when I applied in high school and I still got into all of the CSUs and UCSB.

Just because you refuse to accept an answer to a question doesn’t make it not true. You can’t do Academic Renewal with a C. You can’t retake it at another school. If you do, The UCs will see it and will question you about it, and that whole process will almost certainly hurt your chances of admission in the long run.

The people reviewing your application aren’t stupid. They aren’t going to ignore or miss two classes with different course numbers with the same class title. It is literally their job to find people like you and deny them admission.

You can probably still get into UCLA if you explain the circumstances. They aren’t heartless. Except when it comes to those trying to cheat the academic system.

They tend to be ruthless when it comes to those cases.
