Hey Everyone,

I'm going to be a sophomore this school year and I'd love to start a new club in my high school. Bear with me--I have several ideas :)

These are my top picks from my extensive brainstorming. Can anyone give me an idea of what club they would be most interested in joining? I also have thought of some activities each club could do, but I can always use more!

-TLC (Teens Lending Care) The main focus is to be a service club. We'd work to raise money for the less fortunate and volunteer at certain organizations.
-Animal Advocates of America. We would probably work at the humane society and support causes that protect wildlife, etc.
-FMSA (Future Medical Students of America). We would attend medical conferences (hopefully) and work with doctors at our local university, maybe even hear speakers about medical school.

So what do you think? Please respond I need all the help I can get!
Ella

I think all of those are fantastic ideas for clubs! Personally, I like the third one (FMSA) because, if I were a prospective medical student, I would love the opportunity to get involved in the field in some way before I even began college. Of course, I can’t comment on the medical part itself, since I plan to study engineering, but I think the idea of getting students involved in a potential career (even if it’s only a simple way) while still in high school.

I feel like there are already a lot of service clubs like Beta, NHS, and Key, but your other two ideas are awesome. You could also try to set up a team for a competition-based club.

I’t trying to start a chess club in our school. Eventually enter some competitions and win some trophies

Thank you for the responses! I think I’m going to go with FMSA. Can’t wait to get it started!

Instead of starting an FMSA why don’t you start a HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) it’s a nationally recognized club and they regional, state, and national levels of over 35 competitive events and you could also incorporate everything you would like to do in FMSA with HOSA…

In my opinion the process of starting a club doesn’t start with wanting to start one. It begins with the necessity for a club designed to carry out an activity you want to do. I started my school’s Science Club because there was no ECs that focused on the sciences at the time, not because I just wanted to start a club.

Instead of TLS look at freethechildren (http://www.freethechildren.com/get-involved/toolkits/brick-by-brick/) you raise $10,000 and you have funded a school to be buildt! Check it out! (I’m also a sophomore and am planning to start this as a club at my school next year.

@thesoxpride10, I see where you’re coming from. If I had to choose based on what was needed at my school, then I’d have to choose FMSA, as my school lacks medical classes and outside activities.
