I'm thinking about starting a club this year, and I'm a senior. I'm legitimately interested in the club I am starting, and was very surprised that my school didn't already have a club like this. However, if i put it on college apps will colleges see it as "He is just doing this for college apps," or will they not care since it is a legit club that still takes a lot of dedication?

Transcript padding

IMO, don’t bother with your idea. It won’t help you. Stick with the EC’s that you’ve been involved with up to this point.

I don’t think i made myself clear. I am starting this club whether I am putting it on my app or not. I’m not asking whether i should start it or not. If I do it, would it HURT me if I put it on my app? Help (however minimally)? Nothing?

I don’t think that any of us can definitively answer your question. If you were my child, I would recommend leaving it off of your application. It may be a flag to admissions as a possible “desperate attempt” to pad your EC’s. On the other hand, absolutely go ahead and start the club if it’s something that you are passionate about. Enjoy the activity but there isn’t a need to mention it on your applications.

OP-nysmile is wise. Let’s see you put in all the time and effort and then leave it off your transcript.
Betcha can’t and won’t.

I Don’t think i have to worry about that, Batllo. I’m not that desperate to have more ECs on my transcripts
I just want my application to be as good as possible.

It might help, but not as much as one that you have done for years. It wouldn’t hurt, but don’t rely heavily upon it.

Yet- Well, good luck then.
But …classmates will coughpaddercough

nysmile is right. I’m doing this and believe me, I’m leaving it off. I’m doing it for fun.
