Starting a dance club at hs, need ideas!

hey cc'ers! i am a girl who has been taking ballet classes all her life, and only recently stopped jazz and tap to make more time for ballet. I absolutely love dancing and want to continue with for a really long time.
I have a couple friends who love ballet and dancing too, and I think it would be neat if our hs had something cool like a dance club/team because we can definitely convince people to join. everybody loves dancing right?
I just need ideas on what to do at club meetings because our school has never done anything like this before. We obviously cant convince people to buy $100 pointe shoes or anything like that, but it would be nice if we choreographed a special routine every once in a while.
So for you dancers who have a dance club at your school, what do you do????

They started a dance club at my d’s school a couple of years ago. It’s a great opportunity for her to practice choreographing on her own, something she doesn’t get to do at her own dance studio. They perform twice a year when the chorus and chamber orchestra perform, at the Winter and Spring concerts. It took a while to get the logistics worked out though, and I still suspect many in the audience leave while they are clearing the stage for the dancers. An alternative would be to dance at assemblies, but keep in mind that your fellow students will want to see something upbeat. For fun, the club members might take drop-in classes together at studios in the area, or go see performances as a group.

so do you think “modern”/jazz choreography is a better idea than ballet? you have a very good point, i dont the kids in my school will want to suffer through ballet :P

My d’s club does one ballet and one modern for the concerts and then a different, more jazzy modern for assembly. Try not to go as far as the cheesy Christmas dance from “Mean Girls” though :)
