Starting a political club

Hey everyone,
I am very passionate about politics, nearly to the point where I am sure I would want to pursue it as a career. I began to think about founding a club (revolving around politics) at my school where I could not only show to colleges my leadership skill and passions, but also where I can create a foundation for current and future students with similar interests. I am not sure whether to start a Politics Club, where it would be unbiased and mostly serve as a debate club almost, or to veer towards a more specific club, such as Young Democrats in which we would help fundraise for certain charities, campaign for local reps, senators, etc. . Which would be better, and what can I do in these clubs to create not only change in my community and school, but also create a lasting impression on the students within it?

A friend and I are contemplating whether or not to start a political outreach club. I think debating is a good idea, as we were planning, and we also want others to have a feeling of a no judgment zone, almost like they can share any current political stance and opinion and they won’t be made fun of or discriminated against saying it, as politics are different, so are other voices. I think we would really study branches of the government, and mostly world events to hear different opinions on whats going on, and share our own. If you get a good mentor or advisor for your club, maybe they could help you prepare for an AP US Gov test/exam, or do a history study group. Maybe have a local politician come in?! Reach out, inform others and communicate! Maybe you could find internships for kids! Hope this helps! Feel free to PM with any additional questions!!!

You could see if you could form a Young Democrats club, and see if someone else would form a Young Republicans club, so you can hold debates on issues and get political conversation going in the community.
I really like the above commenter’s idea to bring in a local politician, super interesting and shows organizing ability.

I was in the type of unbiased, free debate club you’re describing during junior and senior year, and I absolutely loved it. But the other type may be more impressive.

To me, the most important thing is which club can you get other people interested in attending. Talk to your favorite social studies teacher and ask what they would suggest. See if they would be interested in being an adviser. Find out how you form a club in your HS. Ask your friends or classmates (esp. in social studies classes) if they are interested.
