Starting a program - Help wanted

I don’t know how to say this.

Recently I have been thinking about how I would have done high school better. My school only has the basic AP classes (bio, calc, lang, etc.) and I never had anyone to push me or tell me I should take better classes. I could’ve succeeded a lot more, but I just didn’t know. I don’t want anyone else to make the mistakes I made. I want to try and start a program that helps incoming high schoolers or freshman realize their potential and challenge themselves. I remember when my thinking changed and I realized how important high school was for me and the rest of my life.

I don’t know how to start this program. I imagine an assembly near scheduling, for incoming freshman or freshman in my school district. I am confident I could find others in my school who would be interested in doing this. I plan on talking to a counselor to help me with this initiative. I am sure some people here have regrets about what they could have done better and I am writing this post to seek advice on what I could do. I also figured this would look great on a college application, but that is not my primary goal.

I’m sorry if this sounds choppy, but I hope you understand my message.

What I would suggest doing is developing a draft of a presentation and talk to the GC about presenting it during Freshman orientation or even the day the 8th graders check out the high school. So don’t go in with nothing, but don’t wait too long to perfect it.

Also talk to them about how kids get into more advanced classes…you can’t just say “I want to” but you have to show you have the grades in middle school.

Or maybe this is something you do as a mentoring program in Middle school so the kids can be ready by the time they get to HS.

Check out a program like “heroes and cool kids” http://www.heroesandcoolkids.org/student-leadership-program/
That does mentoring of middle schoolers by HSers.

Also talk about how you program would continue after you graduate.

@bopper thank you so much! some good points in there

Would love some more advice on this, anyone?
