Ever since I learned about Science Olympiad, I've wanted to join. Unfortunately my school doesn't have a team. I have been thinking about starting a Science Olympiad team at my high school but have no idea how to get started. What are some tips/info I should know? Also, how should I find a club sponsor? Any advice is much appreciated :)

Im not sure if its too late to sign up for this year, but
First you should talk to an interested science teacher to coach the team, make it an official club, and sign up for your local regional tournament

Find and recruit other students interested in joining, theres a max of 15 per team but you can compete with a shorthanded team. You should know what the schedule is at the competition to make sure someone’s events don’t overlap at the same time.

You’ll want to assign your events quickly so you have more time to study them. You can hold weekly meetings and have students discuss with their event partners and study from. Its going to be alot of self studying.

You definitely want to get at least 1 competition manual http://store.soinc.org/p-14-2015-rules-manual-division-c.aspx
It contains all the rules for all the events. Make sure you follow ALL the rules, like wearing safety goggles for most events, violating a single rule will cause a scignificant penalty.

I dont think you’ll find one, but there could be a pre-regional, invitational near you, those help keep you on track and offer a warning if you dont follow a rule.

Scioly.org is a great resource to get started studying, it offers basic information for events in the Wiki. Theres also numerous practice tests. You’ll need more than just this to be competitive though.

How well you do will be based on how much you prepare, also try to compete in every event.

Good luck starting your own team!

Great, thanks! Btw how do events work? Can you sign up for multiple?

@renz511 You can sign up for multiple, just can’t do two that are at the same time

FYI while it might not be too late to officially create a team, it might be impractical. If you don’t think you’ll be able to get at least 10 decently hard working (note: I didn’t say smart, since hard work is far more valuable in Scioly than smartness… for the most part. This is also a lot more difficult than you’d imagine… I speak from experience) people, then you might want to reconsider waiting until next year.

For the record, I’m not planning on competing this year. I was just trying to get insight on how I should start forming a team.
