<p>How does starting a small business look on a application as an EC? I started a small server hosting company that generates about 10K+ a year in profits. I also manage a portfolio of about 12K that I have a very good return on (112% for 1.5 years) would that also be good to mention? I would like to go to a target business schools such as Wharton, Haas, Tepper, UV.</p>
<p>Both of those look excellent as long as you did the majority of the work for the business (rather than you “starting” it on paper and your parents doing it all).</p>
<p>This is something that should definitely set you apart from other applicants in a very good way. It could also make an excellent essay topic.</p>

<p>I started a small business freshman year and have ran it since. I didn’t want to write my main common app essay or extracurricular statement (too small) on it, so I wrote an essay explaining how I started and run my business in the “additional information” section of the common app (under “writing”). </p>
<p>Mention whatever you’d like. I focused on the story behind the business in mine and then finished with a link so that they could check out the website if they want.</p>
