Starting an AP Computer Science Class??

hey guys,

ok so i am a high school junior in northern new jersey. I attend a small public school and i am interested in taking/majoring in computer science in college. Well, my high school doesn't offer a computer science class and i would really like to get a head start and learn the foundation for computer science. Does anyone have any idea on how someone could start an ap computer science class? I have talk to my guidance counselor about it and she said i should look into it. I don't know if it is even possible for a student to start an ap class, does anybody know? Also if i were to do this would this look particularly good on a college application?

thanks in advance for your answers!!!!!

That would be up to your school’s faculty to create the class. One of the issues may be finding a teacher who has the knowledge/degree to teach such a class.

In the interim, your best bet would be to either find an online class that teaches computer science, or to self-study it and take the AP exam. You can certainly order an AP exam and take it, regardless of whether you took an official class in school or whether your school offers AP Computer Science.
