Starting ECs late ... still okay?/How are my ECs?

I'm a junior. I kind of wandered my first two years of high school, but on the plus side I figured out what I really wanted to get involved in, and knew that honors societies weren't for me. They didn't seem to do anything substantial. That being said:

I joined the creative writing club this year, which is only in its second year. It's relatively close-knit and I'm just a casual member - I might run for secretary at the end of the year, but I would be more than happy to give up an officer position to someone who is really passionate about the club and puts their back into keeping it going.

I'm going to be volunteering every other week at the local science museum, probably starting in late October (paperwork takes a ridiculously long time to complete).

I e-mailed 6 professors at the local university and actually got a reply from two! :D I'll be working with an assistant professor in astronomy pretty informally on Wednesdays and he's going to teach me how to analyze data from the WISE satellite, which is awesome.

I'm joining the Science Competitor's Club in time to do individual competitions and I'm also meeting up for my school's Science Bowl team on Mondays (an outcrop of the Competitor's Club).

In my free time I learn languages, it's one of my things (I taught myself German and I'm semi-fluent, I'm also fluent in Spanish and I'm casually learning Hindi and Russian). I also teach myself piano but I'm not very good at it yet.

I plan to be a physics major. Are these good ECs?

Bump.

From my understanding your only EC for 9th/10th grade was a writers club where you hold no positions. Assuming you are looking at basically anything other then community college they will want you to have ECs (all four years) where you hold leadership positions and plenty of community service. You don’t need some crazy ground-breaking research or anything like that, you need commitment. Personally I would say your ECs are bad simply because you have almost nothing for half of your high school career. Realize you will be up against people with much more accomplished before they start junior year, such as positions in clubs and tons of community service.

On a side note look into NACLO, you would probably enjoy it…

Hope this helps!

Honestly, I don’t see much wrong with it. I just joined a club in its second year and i’m a senior.

Granted, I have other EC’s and I wake up every day mentally kicking myself for not joining the club when it was first created, but you shouldn’t worry about it. Just try to make the best of the time you have (and you have a LOT left to go).

Do i have good activities i also kinda started late

Im a senior now
