Starting my first semester of engineering, needed some advice about internships.

Hello everyone, I'm starting my first semester of engineering at my local community college this semester. I'm focusing on mechanical engineering, I'm a bit nervous but have been preparing for my coming classes by studying for them early.

I wanted to know, is it too early for me to go looking for some sort of internship during my first semester of engineering classes. I also googled local interning opportunities in my area, and came out empty handed. This discouraged me a bit, I live in western new york near the rochester area. Idk what I will do when it comes down to finding a job if I ever finish school. I know it's a long way to go till I graduate but I can't help but prepare for the future.

What do you guys suggest when it comes to finding some intern work to get me ready for a real engineering career? do I look for interning opportunities really far from my area? Or should I just not be concerned about this and focus on getting really high grades and let everything fall in place. I'll really appreciate some sort of advice here. Thank you everyone

Start with research. Internships are for third and fourth years, mostly.

do community colleges have research positions available? I thought that was more of four year college thing.

thanks for the reply btw

Not sure, check.
But you may be able to just get one at a university while not attending if your schedule allows it. If not, don’t worry too much because you’ll probably spend at least another 3 years in university for engineering.
