Starting over with a different degree?

I dropped out of university a few years ago due to health issues. I don’t want to go back to that school or finish my ba in that particular major.
I would like to go to my local CC and in a way start over. Of course my previous academic record will stand, but could I start again? I want to major in the stem field whereas initially I was in the liberal arts field, and would I be able to transfer out to a major university?
I already have so many credits but I also had a poor gpa due to my ongoing health issues at the time.

Yes, you can go to a CC and start over. Many students at CC are in that position. Your previous record will only be relevant for a few purposes:

  1. The CC will only accept grades of at least a C or C-. Any grades below that will not transfer to the CC and you would need to retake them.
  2. If you wish to transfer eventually to a four-year school, all transcripts must be submitted. But if you perform well at the CC and establish a pattern of success, those transcripts would probably not carry much, if any, weight.
  3. If you previously received financial aid, and if you have attempted a significant number of credits without much success, this can impact your ability to receive financial aid. You have to meet standards of "Satisfactory Academic Progress" to continue to be eligible.
