Starting your own club

How does one go about doing this? My friends and I wanted to start some sort of school club/organization but we really have no idea how to do this, or what we should start. Can anyone give me ideas as to what we could start, and how to do it?

Policies on starting clubs will likely vary depending on your high school. Often you will need a teacher supervisor to oversee the club, so try talking to some of your teachers about your plan. You may need to do some paperwork.

As to what type of club you could start, what sorts of things are you interested in? What is already offered at your school?

At my school one of the vice principals is in charge of clubs. I go to him to get a certain form and fill out the form with a prospective teacher sponsor.

At my school (almost for any type of culb)
1)name of the club
2)3 people
3)You need an advisor (teacher)

bump.

anyone have some ideas for clubs? i'm open to pretty much anything. not more than the ordinary is offered at my school. i'm mainly interested in science/biology area, but really...any sort of club/organization ideas would be great.

If there is something that you are really passionate about, then make a club for it if there is not one already. You really shouldn't start a club just for the sake of starting a club.

sounds to me like you just wanna start a club so you could put it your college apps.

I agree- don't just start a club because you want to put it on apps, start one because one is needed.

If you're looking for something science/bio related, maybe Roots and Shoots? It's kind of more environmental science-y, but close enough. Google it for more info.

^ R and S is pretty ineffective at my school. Go HFH.

i want to start a dance club, but i am not sure how to approach this either. PMs and just posting advice on this board would be appreciated.

Start a NetHack club!
Whining about being instakilled by giant eels is a lot more fun with other people around. :)

(There's even one at MIT. But it's actually an official class. Remind me why I went to that Other Institute of Technology again?)

The easiest way to start any sort of organization is to find people who're interested, get some sort of adviser, and then go meet with someone in the upper ranks of the school (i.e. not a teacher).

I just started an Ultimate Frisbee team/club at my school. I first discussed it with my GC, and then with Vice Principal, and lastly the Principal...so it may take a little while.

@ sak09. Really, just don't start something because you can. Even if you're doing it for college, if you're not really into it, it will show through, and you'll just wanna quit. On the flip-side, if you really want to do it (have a passion for 'it'), it will shine through because you'll go through all the hoops necessary to start a club.

Good luck!

I started a coloring club. Our first meeting is in 3 days. It took forever to get approved by our school, but it's going to be so worth it.

im trying to start a business cub at my school.

what are coloring and business clubs?

Start a KoolKidsKlub.

Coloring club is an organization that encourages students to get together and color. with crayons. in coloring books.

The teacher that's advising us says that we can't just color in coloring books once a week and call ourselves a club, so we're probably going to do some fun art related community service things. We're also making t-shirts that say, "If coloring was easy, it would be called your mother," and they are going to have a picture of Odysseus shooting a crayon through the 12 rings.
