Starting your own Fundraising Campaign

Hey,

I want to start my own fundraiser/campaign to help preserve the native american languages of North America. I understand that this would be a huge undertaking, i just dont know how or where to get started. I am not native american myself, but i have a passion for the culture, and many of their languages are endagered. What would the steps be to create this? How do i make it 'official'? And how would i get the word out? Thanks! :)

You would probably want to get some liasons with your local Native American tribes. Do you speak some of the languages? If not, since you are not N.A. and don't speak the language, it would be hard to gain credibility for your mission. If that is the case, you might want to make the leader the chief of one of the tribes, or of a Native American organization. It would seem kind of strange for a non-native to be the head of the fundraising campaign, like a white person leading the NAACP, it just doesn't work. If you continue with it you should go to your local papers. If it's successful it will eventually gain regional, and, if you're lucky, national notice. I'm not an expert on the subject, but this is the best that I can come up with. Good luck.
