Hey, before I joined this site and started looking at other people's stats that are applying to the same or similar colleges as me, I was extremely content with my SAT score of 1460 (740 M, 720 V). But it seems to me that almost every person on this site has a higher SAT score than me. Now, as someone who is applying to Ivies and Ivy-type schools, I am EXTREMELY worried about my chances of getting in these colleges. I was told by one person on this site that 1400+ along with other good stats was good enough for a decent shot at these types of schools. However, I still cannot help but think that my SATs are going to hurt me in the admissions process. Can anyone else enlighten me as to the importance of SATs in the admissions process and whether mine "stack up" or not? Thanks.

please, shut up.

This site scared me out of applying to the Ivies because of my "low" SAT score, then I've had friends accepted to Ivies with 1160, 1190, 1220, 1240, 1350, and 1380 already. Kind of wish I applied to one now (probably still wouldn't have gone, but would have liked to see if I got in).

ur score is fine don't worry

yea and dont forget that almost half of these people are probably exaggerating (sp?) their scores

and this board is not an accurate representation of all the applicants... these are the top applicants anyways.

i hope u have also noticed that more than half people w/ 1550+ are getting rejected from top schools, only goes to show that sat, when u are scoring in that league(1450+) doesn't make much of a difference, its all about the person

just telling you..people who get rejected with 1500+ SAT scores are two reasons...1) thye have crappy GPA's
2. they don't have any really good ec's or awards.
hey JRP123, don't worry...ill betcha most people here exaggerate their scores...cuz its ridiculous to think a person has a 4.8 with a 1500+ SAt score and crazy Ec's and lots of awards to come here for advice.

Rather than listen to people here, go to the sites that give hard numbers. Is your GPA, SAT Socre, SATIIs, number of APs, etc. aboveraverage for the school in question? If yes, and you have good ECs, you have a good shot. If any of your stats are below and you don't have a strong hook, chances are you don't have a good shot. There are really not that many mysteries outside of HYPS, and even at those if you're honest with yourself you and your counselor (if they are good) can make an educated guess.

JRP, SAT scores are not the most important criteria. The mean SAT scores are Cornell, Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth and Penn are between 1380 and 1440. So your score is above the average at those schoools. Clearly, you would have been better off with the highest possible SAT score, but your essays, ECs and actual curriculum are actually far more important.
