Stat 134 Professors Spring 2012

Well, I am planning on taking Stats 134 this coming spring, but I am at a loss as which professor I should choose: Klass, Ross, or Pitman. I've done all the conventional things: ninjacourses, myEdu, ratemyprofessor, courserank, and even talked to the department, and yet I'm still at a loss as none of them were particularly revealing. Which of these professors is best? Or should I just wait for Ibser or Adhikari? (Or is there any one else to talk to that would shed some light?)
Thank you all in advance for your help.

take it with klass ;)

Okay, well my only concern is, according to ninjacourses and ratemyprofessor, that his lectures are very difficult to understand (particularly his handwriting) and many people didn’t care for the book. Did you not have a problem with either?

All I know is Pitman wrote the book, but I don’t know how he is as a teacher. I’m taking it with Lugo right now, who got a 2.2 on ratemyprof., not the best teacher but he was the only one that fit into my schedule.

Let me just give you some input on the class itself. It is hard. I talked to multiple stat majors before deciding to take this class (because I want to double in Haas so I didn’t want my GPA to tank before I applied), and the general consensus was that it is one of the harder upper division stat courses. They weren’t joking. This is probably the hardest class I’ve ever taken. Granted the only technical classes I took at Cal before this were Math 53 and 54. Maybe you have a better aptitude for this stuff, and maybe my professor just isn’t very good, but be prepared to work your butt off studying, doing problems, going to office hours, going to the SLC for tutoring, etc. if you want a good grade in this class. I don’t think I’ve ever studied this hard for anything in my life. I don’t want to scare you, but try not to overload your schedule next semester if you plan on taking this course and want to do well. I know some people that took this and a few technical courses and still did well, but just tread cautiously before you take this class.

Regardless of the professor you get, I feel like it won’t make too much of a difference. This class is just hard. The book is really well written though (supposedly, I don’t find it THAT amazing but many people tell me it makes for an amazing reference). It is very clear, but at some points can be hard to follow.
