State affect on admission

How much does coming from an underrepresented state (Idaho) affect your chances at Yale?

I think it really really really helps haha I’m an SCEA admit from Wyoming :) Yay for sparsely populated states!

Congrats Megnificent! That’s awesome  ! Would you mind posting your stats?

Thanks! I’m excited!

So my SAT is bare minimum I’m told… and I haven’t invented a cure for cancer etc. haha

Thanks megnificent, and congrats again! Hopefully Idaho helps out with my app as well :D, although you seemed to be just as qualified either way. I can’t seem to find anyone who has been accepted from Idaho yet. hmmm… hopefully me? haha

I just looked on the admits site, and there are 2 Idaho acceptances.

I hope you get in… Yale needs more westerners :P

Hey just found this article on YDN! Haha

[Yale Daily News - Great Plains produce few Elis](http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/features/2010/01/19/great-plains-produce-few-elis/)

How many are there from Canada? Does it say? Just curious.

I think that’d be “State effect on admission” ;). It helps.

Megnificent- congratulations…How exciting!! My daughter applied SCEA and was deferred. Are you able to see how many people were accepted form Hawaii? (we live in Hawaii)
We are just curious and hoping for good news on April 1. Congratulations again. :)

Some extensive discussion of this topic here:

2250 is approximately the median matriculant score, so it is hardly a “bare minimum” although, being in a low-population state, you probably did benefit from a geographic “tip”.

Megnificent, if i were you id be careful posting stuff on CC threads. bc i bet you the admission committee knows who you are or can easily find out who you are just because ur a Wyoming-ite.

you can’t even use “effect” and “affect” correctly and you’re applying to yale.

^^omg, you used a comma splice, and you’re applying to Yale??? Lighten up pigs :)

"But I arrogantly believe, that my math skills are better than yours which are better than the… "

hahahah pigs! I apologize for the “■■■■■■■■” spelling error. You’re probably right; I shouldn’t even apply to Yale, because Yalies never make mistakes. Dang it…

oh and p.s. I really don’t appreciate the use of “■■■■■■■■.” Maybe choose a better word next time. One that is less rude perhaps and doesn’t ridicule innocent members of our population? Thanks :D

Anyone know how much it helps/hurts to be from Arizona? :)

I heard that there were no admits last year :/

There were 8 admits from AZ last year.

That’s such an interesting table. What makes such a big difference in huge numbers from Michigan, fewer from Ohio, and very few from Indiana? I mean, I KNOW why Connecticut has so many. But…all midwest, all similar sized, not the prep school belt, etc. Indiana does NOT have the best education system, but…are Ohio and MI THAT much better? Must be, I guess. Maybe they have more private schools too, dunno. That was fun to look at, thanks.

There’s so many from CA and NY… (:

Quick question:
Do these states represent where the students were born, or where they lived when they applied?
I was born in Oklahoma but now live in Texas, so this might make a difference for me. :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks.
