State College Downtown Safety

Hi everyone! So myself and two other girls found an apartment, its called Old Boalsburg Apartments, owned by the Apartment Store. We really like it, I was just concerned that if I am walking back at night from campus by myself, how safe would it be.The walk is probably a 15 minute walk tops. I just wanted to know everyones thoughts on it. I would love to be on campus, but sadly was not offered a contract, and were just trying to find something before everything is gone.
Thanks!!

Does anyone know anything about this? I already signed the lease because we wanted to secure something before everything was gone. (all of the apartments right off campus were gone in october) Thanks!!

Penn State/State College is very safe and has very little crime. I don’t think walking back to your apartment at night would be a big issue, other than perhaps running into a drunk student or two lol.

Hahaha yeah I kind of figured that  but thank you!

It just makes sense to use some caution after 2 AM. Also, wherever you are, pay attention to your surroundings AND TAKE OFF THE DAMN EARPLUGS.

You don’t want to be walking around after it gets dark by yourself. 2nd highest crime rate in Pennsylvania. my friend had a bad run in up there.

I’m gonna have to disagree with you there, Kevin. You’re telling me that State College has more crime than Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Scranton, even York and other cities? No way! It was rated the third highest metropolitan area in safety in 2010.

Also agree check out the crime rates last year and its broken down by category.

I laughed when I read that. OTOH charlieschm is right; you should be aware and take out the earbuds when walking alone at night.

Tell that to the 299 families who lost someone due to drug warfare in 2010…

Edit: and gang violence

Link to where one can find that information. That makes no sense.

this happens on the reg

How does that relate to drug warfare and gang violence?
No one died at those riots…

Look at all the alcohol!

That is still irrelevant to the safety of State College and Downtown.

And what are you talking about with alcohol?

You still have not backed up your 299 families who have lost someone to drug warfare and gang violence comments.

<< Look at all the alcohol! >>

You obviously have a problem with alcohol on college campuses.

Have you considered BYU?

Guys, it’s pretty obvious that Kevin is a ■■■■■. Ignore anything he says. Just trying to get you guys fired up and bring attention to himself.

Pens - you are probably right.

If you guys dont believe me just see for yourself. the gang are VICIOUS!
