Hi, my friend and her son are going to State College next week for a Eberly accepted student meeting.

What are the best (or most fun) restaurants in State College? I saw something on TV once about Are You Hungry. Are they only take out or do they have eat in as well? I also saw a Penn State Football game on Tv and they showed The State College Diner and said it was an institution.

Any more we don't know about? What are your favorites?

Also, what should they see in State College and on campus that may not be on the Eberly tour? They plan to stay over Saturday night so they will have Sunday to explore.

We like the Corner Room - right in downtown state college.
Since we’re usually there on crazy-busy weekends, we also appreciate restaurants that take reservations since we hate waiting. Kelly’s Steak and seafood is about a 10 minute drive. The food is good and they take reservations…unlike most downtown SC restaurants.

The Corner Room is especially nice if you can snag a booth by the window (and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner). Bill Pickles and the Allen Street Grill are also right on the corner of Allen and College; the food for all three comes out of the same kitchen. It’s not gourmet, but generally dependable. The Diner is famous for Grilled Stickies; other good options for breakfast and/or lunch are Irving’s and The Waffle Shop. Cozy Thai is a favorite of my son and his friends. The Tavern is great for ambience, but the food is mediocre at best. All of these restaurants are right on College Avenue. (Can’t comment on Are U Hungry. I’ve walked by many times, but never felt compelled to go in.)

I have to disagree about the Tavern being mediocre. Their menu changes every night and you get unlimited side dishes with your meal. I think the food is delicious. Yes, there are always times when a particular night or meal isn’t, but overall, that is easily my favorite restaurant in State College.

Never a wait, great food, good prices.Even on football weekends. It is well hidden. You do not have to be a member of the club to dine here. 10 min drive. CasuaL dress code.

So my above suggestion not ther best place to get a feel for the colllege…just nice place to eat.

Sunday am go the waffle house right there on college ave. Filled with kids around 11 ish I guess. Walk over to the HUB and check out the bookstore and eating areas. Drive around and through campus. It’s sooo big and things are spread out.

Rotelli’s. Italian sit down (but casual) restaurant - right in town.
Pizza, pasta, sandwiches/wraps, kids menu. It was good last time we ate there.
