I'm looking for a good art and design State College any suggestions?

Absolutely. In fact, if you gave me the name of the state in which you’re a resident, I can see if any of its state colleges have a good rep in art/design. But some that you should look at, which are good in art and design, include:

Mass Art (which is a pure art school, and is a public (state) college), Virginia Commonwealth, UCLA, New York State College of Ceramics (which is located at Alfred U, a private university; but the NY State College of Ceramics part is public), Temple U (partly publicly funded), UCSD, U Texas Austin, Hunter College, Ohio State U, UC Davis, U Illinois Urbana, U Iowa, U Wisconsin Madison, Arizona State U, Indiana U Bloomington, Rutgers New Brunswick, UC Berkeley, U New Mexico, U Tennessee Knoxville, SUNY New Paltz, U Georgia, U Illinois Chicago, U Michigan Ann Arbor, U Arizona, U Washington.

You want more? Look at: U Minnesota Twin Cities, San Diego State U, Ohio U, Louisiana State U, UMass Dartmouth, U Kansas, Kent State U, the Fashion Institute of Technology (it’s a SUNY), Cal State Long Beach, Cal State LA, SUNY Purchase, Southern Illinois U Carbondale, UC Irvine, UCSB, U Florida, U Colorado Boulder, UNC Chapel Hill, U North Texas, Florida State U, SUNY U at Buffalo, Brooklyn College, SUNY Stony Brook, Northern Illinois U, UMass Amherst, U Delaware, San Jose State U, U Nevada Las Vegas… Whew! Lots to offer. There are more as well - these are just to get you started.

Some of those are actually elite art schools. Some are better in some fields than in others - for example, Kent State is great in fashion design; New Paltz is wonderful for jewelry/metals, etc.

All are solid, overall, art and/or design schools.

[Tyler School of Art](Tyler School of Art and Architecture | Temple University)

^ Tyler is part of Temple U.

I’m aware of that, I go to Temple. Links are slightly more helpful than just listing schools.

^ Temple’s a great art school. I was just pointing out the connection between Temple and Tyler for the original poster.

My son is a student at New Paltz majoring in Graphic Design. They are known for their art dept.

I’d recommend the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. And as a bonus, OOS tuition is pretty cheap comparatively.

The question should be what art and design schools are in YOUR state. OOS rates for school are very high (except for a few states which are still bargains). Otherwise you might as well look at private schools as well.
