Another thread said it could be mid March before we hear anything… :(

Yeah they got swamped… we’re hopefully going to be hearing back in mid-march :S

gotcha. good luck to you guys still waiting =)

anyone heard anything yet??? Someone call and find out when exactly we’ll be hearing back… It should be sometime this week or next week… I’m too scared to call…

Well that makes no sense.

I just called the State Department and the lady I spoke with said that they had already sent out a mass email and both the acceptance and denial letters. I clarified that we were talking about the summer clerical program and not the summer state department internship. I also told her I hadn’t received anything and no one on either the facebook or college confidential forums had either. But she insisted the preliminary information had been sent.

She also stated that more information might be delayed because of the D.C. budget battles.

I’m going to check my junk email folder immediately.

Just checked mine, still nothing. Maybe the lady on the phone was a bit misinformed or just confuzzled… I’m going to check the status of my application on US JOBS…

EDIT:status is still the same! I think she was a bit confused… It can get stressful in there with all the phones ringing!

thanks for calling them though smoughon7
I can’t get on facebook until 8 (I’m at school) so if anyone wants to tell me what people are saying on FB right now that would be awesome…

I’m so needy lol

Lol, no worries. This is the only reply so far:

"From my understanding, the funding for these State Dept programs is in State’s request to Congress from June 2010. Usually these things get approved by October with December being latest it happens ever… Its March 2011 now. The money for these programs is an item in the CR (Continuing Resolution) that there still debating now. :(

On the plus side, its hasn’t been cut out yet! Let’s pray that it won’t!"

Hey everyone, I’ve been waiting for a response too…I doubt my application was competitive but I’m keepin hope lol…I called the lady and she was very frustrated with the calls she had been getting from rude applicants…If anyone calls please remember not to shoot the messenger lol No news is good news!

What did she say when you called? And yeah, she can get frustrated. Be nice and know what you need to ask when you call.

She said that notices were sent out and are still being sent out

Ok… well I just scanned through and I have nothing in my email. The agony continues.

My life is going to be this thread and that on Facebook for the next few days/weeks until acceptance/rejection emails are recieved haha

I just got off the phone with a very helpful lady in HR. According to her, the State Department has NOT sent out any notifications regarding the Summer Clerical Program. She said they were still receiving postings from the individual bureaus, and hoped to send out notifications in the next couple of weeks.

However, she also stated unequivocally that State would not be able to notify us until they receive funding for the summer. Right now the government is funded through March 18. If the past is any guide, it could be much longer than that before Congress agrees on a Continuing Resolution. If there is another two-week compromise or a shutdown, we might not hear from State until well into April (then we may have issues getting security clearances in time). Here’s hoping and praying everything works out.

Can someone link to the other threads/facebook group where the Clerical Program is being discussed? I have not been thinking about this program much - the application was too vague for me to feel like I have a shot. I applied to other programs as well but it would be awesome to participate in this, especially with my career goals in mind.

so, with another 3-week budget extension most likely being approved by Friday, won’t this be pushing the limit for security clearances? I figured it would have to take around 3 months I’m thinking I’m going to call State Dept. HR tomorrow.

ok, update. This from the FB discussion: “i spoke to state dept hr today and they said the offers would be going out in 2 weeks… take that as you will”

I’m kind of concerned that “two weeks” is another way of saying “we don’t when, so we’re making up something”, but if it’s true, that’s good news.

Two people on the facebook page have confirmed that results are being given out on Friday.
