I've been looking through old threads and such, and I've seen people say things like 'Pomona only has 3 students from ohio, so you have a good shot' and stuff like that. So I was just wondering does anyone know where I can find this information of which states the students are from, and how many are from each.

Or if anyone just happens to know how many students Pomona has from Virginia? I'm interested, but I want to know if anything might slightly increase my chance any little bit.

I haven’t been able to find that info, but I have been curious about this also. We live in a very under-represented state, and I have wondered if that didn’t give my son just the boost he needed to get admitted.

I don’t know the specifics by state, but know that there are quite a number of admitted students from the metro Washington, DC, area (DC/MD/VA). You really can’t go by numbers, though. The year my D got accepted, two of the other three applicants from her school were also accepted - two ED I, and one RD.

Thanks for the link to the geographic breakdown. I am also surprised by the “other west” having a greater percentage in attendance than “Northwest”. How much other west can there be (excluding the NW and California)?? A lot of students escaping the cold of Alaska? ;)

If anyone ever goes to the admissions office, they have a notebook with all the current students listed by state, then high school. They also have a bulletin board with push pins for each student.

Hey, don’t forget about Hawaii in “Other West”! We have a lot of students who go to “the Mainland”, as we call the continental US, and especially California.

MomoGold, While joking about Alaska, I certainly did not mean to forget about The Aloha State, or any of the “other west” states. I could never forget about Hawaii, it’s one of my favorite places. When I win the lottery (a BIG one), I will buy a house near Po’ipu Beach. :)

It is more difficult to get into Pomona is you are from CA. There are more CA people at Pomona, because the larger part of the applicant pool is from CA, but they really try for geographic diversity.
