State Income Tax Info for FAFSA?

<p>Hi,</p>

<p>Do you need state income tax return or information also in addition to Federal Income Tax Return for compelting FAFSA?</p>

<p>I've estimated my 2008 Federal Income Taxes and plan to use those for FAFSA for my son. I was wondering if I need the info from California State Income Taxes as well for 2008.</p>

<p>Nope. FAFSA uses actual federal tax information but, rather oddly, estimates figures for State and FICA taxes based on tables within the FAFSA formula.</p>

<p>the Fica the fafsa uses is actually pretty correct, 7.65% and that is what is withheld from my pay. Not so much on the state taxes (here in Philly we pay an additional 4% city wage tax)</p>

<p>Ditto for my state. The % they show for State taxes is much lower than we actually have to pay.</p>
