State of housing - Spring

Hello, everyone.

I completed my application to ASU not long before the Dec. 1 deadline, so I’m still waiting to hear back from Admissions - which is nerve-wracking, when classes start in a month. (My asurite profile still says they’re waiting for my transcript.)

My question, however, is regarding housing. I read about a poster on this board that was given the option either to stay in a hotel or a satellite dorm when he began in the fall semester. My concern is whether this will be a problem in the spring semester. Was there significant “melt” in the first few weeks of the fall semester? Are there still grumblings about the housing situation students find themselves in, or have a few beds opened up in the dorms? I can’t afford to drop $70 on a housing application until I know I’m accepted, which is why I’m so anxious.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Well, I know quite a few people left the dorms from my floor this semester, so I'm assuming that it is quite true all over campus. As for the residential housing application, I don't think they are allowed to process it unless you have been officially accepted. I'm not exactly sure though.

Usually rooms open up a lot between the fall and spring semesters. People realize they actually have to work in college, whoa! Or they get off-campus housing. My sister's roommate moved out after fall semester her freshman year.

But Im not sure about your specific situation, so apply for the dorms the day you get your admissions letter.

Thank you both, this is what I needed to know.

You should have no problem getting housing. You should be more concerned about getting your admission processed. Don't wait for postings, call the admissions office to make sure they have all of your stuff and expedite anything they don't have. As soon as they declare your file complete they will make a decision. Did you check to make sure your transcripts were sent?
