State of the Union

Awesome speech, in my opinion. What the President said about the sacrifices and honor of the troops and their families was well deserved, and only makes me want to become an officer in the US Army even more.
Just thought I'd throw that out there...

ps: i don't want this thread to turn into a political debate, so please take that into account in any responses.

3 words:

too

much

clapping

yeish, can't they record it and edit out the clapping?

did i just hear bush suggest technology to stop relying on oil?

edit: i like those military generals, they're already listening to my suggestions.

I couldn't agree more with his statement about "hindsight is not wisdom and defeatism is not a strategy" (or something like that). Whether they like it or not, we're there! Let the generals and soldiers get the job done and we can debate stuff later. It's about as effective as arguing about who started the fire while your house is burning down.
I also got a kick out of his Line Item Veto proposal. I'm attending a huge mock Congress later this month and I trying to push through that exact thing, all but with different wording.

Sorry if this is too political.

The state of the union event was a pretty vivd illustration of how polarized the Congress and Admistration have become. The Supreme Court Justices looked particularly uncomfortable.

The Justices' behavior was pretty appropriate. After all, they have to maintain a high level of bipartisanship.
As for Congress, what's new?

"they have to maintain a high level of bipartisanship"

Actually it would be better if they were non-partisan.

Sorry, I mixed up those two terms. Thanks for the correction.

The Supreme Court Justices are non-partisan - at least at the State of the Union Address. They have never applauded or stood to applause a comment from any president. Nor should they.

Yeah. I think the only time the Supreme Court Justices rose to their feet during the speech was when President Bush said that we must continue to support the troops.

Being one of the “older” parents with a [soldier] eager to serve his country, I’m struck by how each and every State of The Union Address , – by my count nine Presidents and over 34 Addresses, I’ve heard - have always given me an uplifting positive feeling. I found excellent themes, thoughts and ideas from all of these nine Presidents. The political arena still barks like a dog when anything is said contrary to “their” views, but let us take a moment here and reflect about the Office of Presidency and how over the years from President Washington until today, we are blessed by their leadership. Yes history will grade each of our Presidents, tonight I want to just reflect upon my pride of being an American citizen. God bless American land that I love.

Sparking a political debate? Remember, this is a West Point forum. God bless the troops .. I hope to take my place in their ranks one day!

Hooah to that.

Rocky...Amen!

The only thing I didnt like about the state of the union was that john kerry and hilary was there lol!!
