I am going to a great state school, UF. Investment banking appeals to me. If I were to go a top b-school, would that MBA make up for my undergrad at a non-target school?

Yes, it would, but you aren’t going to get into a top B school without some solid work experience first. Furthermore, you’ve got a shot at breaking into IB from UF, especially on a regional scale - if your sole reason for the MBA is to get into IB, then try to get into IB straight out of U grad, then, if you want a better firm or change of pace, you can reconsider B school.

PM me if you have any other questions.

IBanker

Thanks. I guess my plan then would be to try to go straight out of U grad. That will be hard.

I don’t know too much about Ibanking, but I do know that a lot of Ibankers went to random schools and then got a Harvard MBA (or similar) degree. Being recruited out of undergrad from tier 1 schools allows for a start at a younger age, but I do think you could get into the bulge bracket if you went to a top B-school.
