State School Programs Similar to/Major Combinations like Georgetown's STIG Major?

I am a high school senior interested in someday working in global healthcare policy, especially the healthcare aspect of it.

The bachelor’s program which best suites my aspirations is Georgetown’s “Science, Technology, and International Affairs” major. Additionally, I would minor in Arabic to fulfill my language requirements.

The issue is that I am not Georgetown material. I am looking for similar programs, that anybody would know of. Additionally, if there are any solid double majors or other degree combination recommendations which would fulfill most of these needs, I would highly appreciate it.

I would ideally have more of an International Affairs concentration, but would not want to diverge from the vital natural science concentration, as well.

Thank you!

Some background: 3.5 GDP, solid extra curriculars.
I’ve been accepted into University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, James Madison University in Virginia, and DePaul University in Chicago.

Well, there’s a few ways you can go about this:

  1. Major in international affairs and minor in, or take some classes in, a natural/physical/technological science field
  2. Double major in international affairs and some science field
  3. Create a student-designed major

For one example, UIUC has a Global Studies major. In addition to the core requirements, you also have to develop a thematic area. There are 5 pre-set thematic areas, but you can also create your own with a minimum of 18 hours (usually around 6 courses, which hey, is the exact amount you take in Georgetown’s program). Your area could be a “Science, Technology, & International Affairs” area. UIUC has many science departments - including earth/atmospheric/planetary sciences and agricultural/food sciences, which are also hugely important to international affairs and not always offered at smaller schools. So that’s an advantage!

James Madison has a robust Independent Scholars program which is designed for students to design their own major and curriculum - sort of like Program II at Duke. There are also majors in International Affairs and in Integrated Science & Technology, which sounds like a perfect double major to do what you want to do. You could also major in International Affairs and minor in Integrated Science & Technology or Science, Technology, & Society.

At DePaul it may be a bit harder, but you could major in international studies and then take several science courses across fields.
