<p>Yup, I know this one kid who turned down a full scholarship to USC just to go to UCLA where he had to pay like I think half or more than half of expenses, which is dumb in my opinion, but everyone has their reasons, and like this student he was one of those that would want to go to UCLA even without scholarship offers.</p>
<p>I think Flopsy has half the reason for UCSD's increased prominence. The other half is that they have a very good administration that's putting together some kick-ass departments.</p>
<p>Liek, I would understand that student who went to UCLA very well. Of course, my D not only passed on the UC system but a free ride at U/Arizona Honors College for a top LAC back East. I also think she stood a good chance of being Regents Scholar for UC if she had applied...but none of the campuses fit her profile.</p>
