State Schools?

I'm new to this board, however I've already found something that irks me a bit. Why does it seem like no one has any high regard for state schools? What is so wrong with students who desire to go to state schools?

I've always been a very good student. I have a high gpa and decent test scores and I'm in the top 10% of my graduating class. However, I have no desire to attend such a school such as the Ivies or schools with so called 'prestige'.

Why do so many of you here make it seem like if you don't go to Harvard or Yale that your some stupid fool who will make nothing of themselves in life? I have quite extensive goals and I don't feel that going to one of these 'superior' schools will help me reach that any more than a state school can. I'm proud to be going to a state school, where I know I will get a good education and won't go broke trying to pay for it.

All this talk of prestige and so on is ridiculous. State schools are just as good as any.

alot of state schools are great, but you have to realize that the vast vast majority of people on this board represent the top 5% of the nation's students and all want to get in to ivy league schools

whoever u are, i agree with what u say, when i first came to this site i was shocked by the number of
WHAT ARE MY CHANCES IF I HAVE A PERFECT GPA/SAT SCORES/PERFECT ECS etc. i was just like whoa do all these people not realize that you can be just as sucessful coming from a state school as wherever [ especially undergrad] im still applyin to other schools but maybe its the fact that my stats arent as high as alot of people here. sometimes i get so depressed and honestly feel bad for how much people tend to panic when their stats are crazy amazing.w/e life goes on

it all comes down to how well you do at where you go, and what you want to do..... i know surgeons who came from SUNY schools, and high school teachers who came from harvard

A lot of it depends on atmosphere, as well. There is a big difference between a small LAC and a huge state school.

im know right, ppl with big egos, SUNYS BABY woooooooo!

I am a frequent poster and I'm probably going to UT-Austin's Business School - even if I get into Yale.

We need an ego boost, that's all.
