State universities with MT BFA or BA's

Ball State. Great school, great theater department with BFA acting and MT programs.

@raellis123 I was wondering, do you think you could double major at NKU?

Montclair to NYC may be 24 minutes without traffic, but that never happens. I would certainly not advertise it like that. Lived in the area for over a year and commuted on the DeCamp bus daily. I would in no way consider it a simple commute to the city. Plus limited service at night and weekends. Primarilyy geared to commuters during rush hour.

Uskoolfish, my daughter goes into the City from Montclair all the time easily. On week days they can take the bus or the train; both stop on campus and there are in fact 2 train stations right on campus that run pretty frequently right into the City. On weekends she takes the bus that stops 2 blocks away from campus (nice neighborhood) and runs every hour or so. Depending on traffic, they either zip into the city or not, which is the down side of the bus. Though there is no “rush hour” on the weekends to deal with, events or accidents can slow down the bus.
But it is still a direct ride and pretty easy.

@broadwaybum - If you do a BA degree you can definitely double major. The BFA would be more of a challenge to complete a double major in 4 years (just like at many schools). If you came in with a lot of credit from AP courses (or similar college credit) and/or took summer/winter courses you might be able to do it.

From what I’ve seen looking at various degrees in the past, most places want 40-50 units for an additional degree. It appears that the BFA-MT only has 2-3 free (i.e., open for non-theatre) electives (probably 6-10 units). That leaves a lot of classes to complete somewhere. Not saying it is impossible, but challenging. I’m thinking that when we read the Spamalot program some students were double majors, or had 2 minors, but I can’t find the program now to confirm that or see whether they were BFA or BA students.

This would be something to discuss with the theatre staff and they can give you a better idea. I found their overall director, Ken Jones, to be very helpful for explaining stuff the couple times I’ve heard him speak. Same for their assistant director but can’t remember his name at the moment. I haven’t met the BFA coordinator, but given the track record of the other two I’m confident you could get good info from any of them.

Does anyone know anything about Illinois State U MT? (In-state!)
