Statistics at a LAC

When I was an undergrad at a LAC I was on the curriculum committee which approved student-designed majors. Most of them tended to be specializations in some area of social studies rather than math/science. I would recommend you check the web sites of some larger schools to see what a major in statistics consists of, and then see how much of that is available at the LAC’s you’re looking at. If you can make up the difference with a couple independent studies, it might be feasible. In general, though, it’s not a good idea to pick a college that doesn’t offer a degree in the field you want to major in. If you’re certain you want to major in statistics, you’re best off looking at schools that already offer it as a major.
