@hailtopitt1787, many students come to Pitt for their career goals in medicine due to Pitt’s reputation in health-related fields. I happened to know the numbers of 2016 Pitt students admitted to MS:
Is it too good to be true? Could you please verify it?
The detailed updated information such as statistics for Pitt students admitted to medical schools and the lists of those schools will help accepted students make their final decisions to enroll Pitt or not.
@J2H239 , we attended the panthers day for medical aspirants last year in July. Yes, these numbers were presented in one of the sessions and they are accurate. But the caveat is that these numbers are applicable only to the students that were recommended by the pre-health advising committee, not all students. Of course, @hailtopitt1787 can give us better insight
Excluding a few elite colleges, most colleges including JHU “manipulate” the numbers of application through the committee for a favorable admission rate. The admission rate for Pitt is still impressive even if Pitt also “manipulates” the numbers of application.
@J2H239, Our pre-med counselor just confirmed that they actually have this week scheduled to update the data. I can get you updated information as soon as they share it with you.
It would be helpful if you can say if the committee writes letters for all, or just those they think that would be successful candidates. That is what manipulates the numbers.
You have to understand that the vast number who entered so freshmen with MS hopes is culled down to these numbers. It’s difficult (if not impossible,) to find that original number of freshmen.
@hailtopitt1787 Thanks for clarification. I learned some colleges like JHU limits to certain number per year and asks remaining to do one or two more years of study. Hence the question.
@hailtopitt1787 Can you please share updated stats for this year? As we see for 2018-2019, total of 331 applicants from Upitt to medical schools. This seems to be big jump from earlier year total of 169 (including DO).
The report that I recently received on March 29, 2019, shows our University had a total of 256 applicants. This number is a bit different from the report you referenced to, which could have changed if some students withdrew applications between October 2018 (as referenced on the report you shared) and March 2019.
Using our March records with 256 applicants, 151 were accepted. I have an extensive list of over 150 schools to which they were accepted to but I have shortened it to show only those schools with at least 10 acceptances. If you are curious about any other school, feel free to ask and I will provide those numbers!
2018:
Drexel University 29
Geisinger Commonwealth 15
Temple University 25
Pitt 49
@DSOF20192023 I only get the medical school acceptance stats and nothing more but you can call the Interprofessional Center for Health Careers at 412-624-2656 to get those statistics.
@hailtopitt1787 , if it is not trouble, can you please PM me the list of all the 150 medical colleges to which Pitt students got into and total numbers for each school. You can just scan the page and send it. I have it for 2016. Thanks a lot
I am an out-of-state student who is about to commit to the University of PIttsburgh, but I would like to know the medical school statistics of the pre-med students at Pitt who have been admitted to medical colleges in general in 2019. Please PM me the data as soon as possible; I need to make my decision by tomorrow.
Thank you very much for your response.
P.s. I was sick on the Honors Students Day and missed a lot of information.
Please send me a message with an e-mail that you would like to receive this data to. The list is very comprehensive and will need to be sent via e-mail.
