I took statistics my first semester of college and received a B because it was the weed out pre-req for the business school at UVA. I’m now worried because I didn’t realize it would count in my science GPA. Should I take another stat class to balance it out or just focus on my future classes?
@nuppg093 One B is not going to be an end,. Focus on future classes to get better grades.
Chill. One B isn’t going to keep you out of med school.
But there is another issue–
If your stats class was a business stats class (as opposed to a math dept based stats class or stats for the sciences/social sciences), you’ll need to take another statistics class because the topics & methods covered in business stats are very different from those covered in a math-based stats or biostats class. You’ll need the latter for the MCAT and for med school admissions.
While statistics is part of the MCAT, according to Princeton health advising it’s only required by 18 medical schools for admission.

So one B will not irreparably damage medical school chances. If you do plan to apply to a school that requires statistics, it’s in your interest to find out-now-if the class you took qualifies for their requirement.
And you’ll need statistics for the MCAT, as noted above, so make sure you are prepared.
Can you take biostatistics? Because that’s the kind of statistics you’d need.
