just applied

Hi,

I just submitted my application a few minutes ago. Pretty excited.. any guesses on when I might hear back from Michigan? Michigan is a safety school for me.

You will most likely get your response anytime between Thanks Giving and Christmas.

That's annoying, I wish I had submitted my app earlier. Now I might have to work on other safety school applications.. Is it just luck when I get it in between Thanksgiving and Christmas?

Not luck really. Michigan usually takes between 6 and 8 weeks to respond. If you submitted your application a couple of days ago, that pretty much means you will hear back from Michigan in 6-8 weeks, which means between late November and mid December.

But since you applied in mid October, you should be ok. Let me put it to you this way

IF YOU ARE A MICHIGAN RESIDENT, YOU WILL GET IN IF:
1. You have a 3.8+ unweighed GPA
2. Your ACT composite score is at least 30 and or your SAT is at least 1350
3. You are ranked in the top 10% of your class.

IF YOU ARE AN OUT-OF-STATE APPLICANT, YOU WILL GET IN IF:
1. You have a 3.9+ unweighed GPA
2. Your ACT composite score is at least 32 and or your SAT is at least 1450
3. You are ranked in the top 5% of your class.

Of course, you still have a good chance of getting in, even if your scores are not quite that good, but at that point, I would not classify Michigan as a safety.

From my school (NY) about 30 kids get into Michigan each year with an average GPA of 3.5 and SAT of 1340. I have a much higher GPA and my SAT is above 1500, so Michigan is a safety

Absolutely, if you have a 1500+ on your SAT and a GPA well over 3.5, you are as good as in. I would not really worry that much.
