Statistics PhD

Hi,

I would like to apply to a statistics PHD. Here are my scores:

General GRE
Verbal: 710
Math: 780
Writing: 5.5

I completed my undergrad with a triple major in math, comp sci and finance and had a cumulative gpa of 3.8math, 3.9 in compsci and and 3.9 in fiance.

I completed a MA from Columbia University in Statistics with a GPA of 4.0. However, I never took the high level analysis course. Also, I am studying for the Math GRE now but am not sure how well I will do...A lot of schools don't require it for statistics.

Also, I don't know if this will help but I just became a credentialed actuary after passing my exams..

I'm looking at some of the top schools, stanford, berkeley, ucla, columbia, harvard, wisconsin. Am I competitive for these?

What do you guys think are some stafeties...how's NYU's program in Stats? What about DUKE, UNC- Chapel Hill, University of Michigan, UPENN, UC Irvine/San Diego.. Any other suggestions.

Can someone help me with the timing also. I am taking the Math GRE Oct 18th (first date available) but I won't get my grades till say Nov. 15th...Should I only then finish my applications and submit them? Some schools have a December 1st deadline and the profs will still need to write their ref letters. Should I just finish the application and send in my scores later? Also, can I just not send them if I didn't do well? Also, what is considered a "good" percentile on the Math GRE.

Sorry for the long winded post but I've been an actuary for 3 years and was working while doing my Masters so I'm a little disoriented by the process.

Your stat looks pretty good to me. I'm also applying this year for PhD in STAT, but I haven't taken any grad level math classes while in school. Is that going to hurt my chance
at a lot of competitive schools? I was a math major and I didn't take much stat classes either.

just out of curiosity, are you an A.S.A. now? and if so, where did you attend undergrad?

just wodnering.. why go to stats phd program after 3 years as an actuary?
