Statistics

Of the three stat classes (2, 20, and 21) which is the easiest for a non math-y person to take and who are good professors to look out for?

Thanks!

Stats 2 is supposed to be really, really easy.

Stats 21 is somewhat "notorious" but when I took it I found it pretty straightforward and relatively easy. I had Professor Ibser...he's really good and organized.

Is it true that it's hard to get a good grade in Stat 2 because of all the premeds?

Stat 2 isn't that bad depending on the professor. Stat 21 is usually the hardest because of all the pre-Haas and many of the pre-Econ people, and typically has lousy professors such as Purves and the infamous David Freedman (how I hate you Freedman). Don't take Stat 21 unless you're sure Stark is going to teach it meaning that he shows up for lecture the first day. I had bad experiences with that class Spring 07, even though I did better than about 85% of the class [stupid no curve].

I thought Pre-meds had to take Stats 20 or 21. Stats 2 is typically for people who don't want to take calculus and need to fill up the quantitative reasoning requirement. It's supposedly really easy.

Stark and Ibser are good for Stats 21.

I wouldn't say Stats 2 is really easy especially if you've never taken another statistics course before. I found it rather difficult with Purves as the instructor. His lectures are slow paced and easy, but the midterms do not reflect the difficulty of his lectures at all. Also, the curve is not what you'd hope for in an easy class: 10% A, 10% A-, 10% B+, 10% B, 10% B-, 40% C's, and the rest.

On a side note, I don't think premeds have to take stats.

Anderes and Ibser are both teaching stat 21 in spring. Anyone know anything about Anderes? Which should I sign up for?
