Hi. I am an incoming freshman and I plan to joint-major in econ-or and on the columbia college website it says that i am required to take "statistics with calculus" aka statistics B.

But i've never taken statistics before so i was wondering if i would be allowed to take statistics A (stats without calculus) during my first semester. Would this be allowed or not for my major.

from the course descriptions, it sounds like both classes are the same, just that one goes deeper into the material. so i'm not sure...

^you can take stat A, but you will probably have to also take state B, if you have taken a basic class in calc before, then take SIEO 3600, which is an introductions to stat which assumes you have calc knowledge but no stat knowledge. It’s a good course, and you’ll do fine. Some kids in the class will have previous stat knowledge, but it is an intro course. Study hard in the class though, a lot of Econ-OR, esp the OR part builds on this course. I really enjoy stat and have take a few courses so pm me down the line if you have any Qs.

You can take it of course but it may not count as anything, even as an elective credit.
