I'm a PEIS intended major, and I'm trying to decide whether to take Stats 2 (Ibser) or Stats 20 (Adhikari). Currently enrolled in 20, but thinking very seriously about switching. I got a 5 on Calc BC and am reasonably good at math, but combinations/permutations/probability/etc always killed me in high school...

How much easier is 2 than 20? Do people recognize 20 as more hardcore than 2, or does nobody care? (as long as I'm not applying to be an econ major)

...it's embarrassing, but part of the reason I want to take 2 rather than 20 is because of my awful MW schedule. All back to back: Wheeler to Tan to Dwinelle to Evans ... oh well, also b/c I'm taking a lot of units this fall and it'd be nice to have a more laidback class.

Stats 2 and Stats 20 are nothing like Calculus. Stats 2 is a joke though, but Ibser is a GREAT professor. I had him for Stats 21. I'd recommend Stats 20, but Ibser is seriously a great lecturer, so it's a hard choice.

You're right to a certain extent. Upper division statistics requires calculus, but this is introductory stats so there isn't much calculus. It's much more qualitative.

I think the OP will be fine though. The majority of people find probability to be the most difficult part of the class, but if you practice enough problems, you should be fine.

My general recommendation is to take Statistics 20, just in case you want to do Economics or you change your major to something else. However, if you read the review of Adhikari and it's unsatisfactory, then consider Ibser. He seriously is one of the best lecturers I have had.

Yeah, I've heard REALLY good things about both Adhikari and Ibser. I think I'm going to go with Stats 20, give myself a challenge and just work hard.
