I just got back from D.C. visiting American U and Georgetown. Due to our schedule I wasn't able take a tour or a info session at GW. We drove around the camous and I really liked the setting.
I'm looking into Internation relation and would really like to study in D.C. I'm looking for stats of the incoming freshmen and general info about GW. thanks!

nevermind... I did some research and found what i was looking for.

I still want to hear more about the univ. from current students...
thanks.

You sound a lot like me......I liked the look of GW better than Georgetown's even though it's supposed to be the superior school. It's appearance just bored me and I don't think it'll be a fit. I didn't get to really go to American U though because I had a 10 day program to attend, but I heard the campus is great.

I didn't get to go into GW just because my parents had to go to a wedding while we were down there and were just picking me up.

yea... i didin't have enough time to tour GW but from the out side i really liked it...AU is really pretty too, small but I really liked the campus setting...

how big GW inside?
how is the campus set up?

I wish I knew.......I only saw the outside, but I'm heading back to American U on the 4th of Aug and I should be checking out GW while I'm there.

For those who wanted to know what the inside of the GW buildings are like...

Business School

The business school is brand-new and looks amazing. I spent about 6 hours in the building last week. It is said to be one of the top b-schools in the country in terms of the quality of the facilities.

Other Academic Buildings

Most academic buildings are new and I've heard that they are great, especially the Media & Public Affairs building. I have heard people in the CCAS complain that their buildings are terrible on the inside though. But classes in those buildings are being phased out.

Dorms

GW has arguably the best dorms in the country, but most of the elite ones are for upperclassmen only. There are 8 freshmen dorms, 4 at each campus. Potomac (Foggy Bottom) and all 4 of the the Mount Vernon dorms are great, especially Somers. I visited a lot of schools and those 5 dorms are better than any dorm I saw at any other school, and they aren't even GW's best.

Most people love the other 3 dorms (Fulbright, Lafayette, Thurston), all located in Foggy Bottom, but I felt that they were terrible. The rooms were absolutely filthy (peeling walls, pipes everywhere, stains all over the place, etc.), the floors were hardwood rather than carpet like the other 5 dorms, the elevators often break, and the bathrooms are tiny. The "kitchen" Fulbright advertises as a reason to come is about the size of a garbage can. However, they do have a fantastic location and the rooms are fairly large.

Also, Potomac is only for Honors & ED 1 students. It houses 380 and 1400 people listed it as their 1st choice. Honors students get preference in housing, then ED 1, then ED 2, then RD. Somers is fairly difficult to get, as is Fulbright. They assign housing mainly on interests, but people have been manipulating the system to get the housing they want.

Marvin Center

One of the main buildings is the Marvin Center, which features a bowling alley, arcade, Jamba Juice, bookstore, grocery store, Einstein bagels, Wendy's, various other restaurants, offices, and more. It's located right by the main academic buildings so it's easy to stop in and get something to eat between classes.

Campus Set-Up

2 campuses, Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon. 500 students live at MV, the rest in Foggy. Most, if not all of your courses will be in Foggy Bottom. In order to get to Mount Vernon you need to take a bus that GW provides, which leaves seemingly every minute. It's about a 10 minute ride. The Mount Vernon campus is very nice and I highly recommend you see it for yourself if you visit GW. Most people want nothing to do with it, but those people probably have never been there.

Most of the main academic buildings are near each other; it should take you 2-10 minutes to walk to class @ Foggy and 1-2 minutes @ MV.

Overall

They don't really have many "ok" buildings, they are either amazing or terrible. The location of the school is amazing. You can walk to the Georgetown area in 10-20 minutes, which has pretty much every store/restaurant imagineable. It's a 5-20 minute walk to the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Smithsonian, and the rest of the "main area" of DC. There is a Metro stop on campus if you do not want to walk. It is also the easiest way to get to Nationals games if you are into baseball. You could always take a cab somewhere, which is usually around $8 one-way.

Wow thanks fantsome I'm heading back for a more indepth look and tour in August.

The dorms, both freshman and upper class housing, are AMAZING...the worst dorm at GW would probably be the best at any other school, I would bet money on it (how can you beat a 'private'...non-communal bathroom and maid service for freshmen)?
