Review of a Film Released in 2008: I wrote a three page review of "Ballast," the winner of the directing prize at Cannes in '08. It was very good.
Dream Job: Discussed my lifelong dream of becoming the lead film critic for the New Yorker.
[ *] Teacher Recs: Top-notch. Along with a rec from a world studies teacher, I had a recs from a professor at the School of Visual Arts and a professor at Emerson College who both raved about me.
[ *] Counselor Rec: We have a good relationship so i'm sure he wrote something complementary
[ *] Hook (if any): Attended the 2-week Duke Talent Identification Program: Reel Expressions at Chapman University, so I had a deep connection to Chapman which I relayed in most of my essays. I have a sick film resume, including summer programs at SVA and Emerson, and am the president of the film club at my school and am the senior film critic for my high school paper.

Haha one person names an actor, the next person has to name a movie they were in, then the person that named an actor has to name an actor in that movie...so on and so forth until someone gets stumped

The scholarship usually comes separate from your financial aid package. You should get that by the end of March.

That is a great scholarship. Depending upon your EFC, the need estimated by your family's finances, you may get more. Appealing for more scholarship dollars probably not so much...but there are need grants, no interest loans and other, separate scholarships that you might be eligible for. The one you got is the biggest one Chapman offers, I believe.

Thanks for the info! I emailed the financial aid office and let them know about my situation (my stepdad just got laid off, and my EFC is lower than it might appear on FAFSA) before April 1 specifically so that they could update my package if they felt it was necessary. Of course they may still decide not to do any additional aid but at least I will have done everything I can.

Decision: Accepted!!! Just found out!!!

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Decent… But not anything amazing. Prompt was taken from an NYU essay prompt about choosing a song and relating it to your life and why you chose the song.
[] Teacher Recs: Pretty good… one from my religious studies teacher, who I’ve known since freshman year and loves me. Other recommendation was from English teacher, who is also the Dean of Student Affairs at my school. I do not know exactly what she wrote, but I feel like she would do a good job.
[] Counselor Rec: Amazing. My college counselor is one of the readers for the UC:Berekley applications and is extremely familiar with Chapman. She knows me very well and spoke about how I travel to our brother school (the Catholic boys school affiliated with my Catholic girls school) every morning to take Honors Physics because it would not fit into my schedule at my school
[] Hook (if any): Talked to the Chapman coach about playing water polo and/or swimming in college @ Chapman. He seemed someonewhat interested and may have influenced the admissions process a bit.

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: San Francisco, California

[/ul]Other Factors/Hook?: I applied early action after discussion with my college counselor. I became aquainted with one of the counselors (the same one that deals with athletic recruits) and kept contact with him throughtout the admissions process. General Comments: Not the strongest candidate academically, but I feel that my test scores (especially my ACT score) gave me a boost. Course load is pretty strong, but not the most challenging (3 AP’s and 7 honors in my high school career)
